2015 Rose Nolan Scholarship winner Sarah Veinot is a member of Glooscap First Nation in Nova Scotia. She is entering her third year at Acadia University and majoring in Biology with Co-op.
Sarah has had to overcome some early challenges at a young age. In grade one she had been classified as a ‘slow learner’ and was shunned because she was unable to process information that was being taught.
After she got hearing aids and speech therapy Sarah’s school grades began to improve and she started to excel in school. Also, at the age of nine she began to learn to play the violin and piano and is currently working on completing her Grade 9 certification in music. Music has been a big part of Sarah’s life, as she has volunteered with both the Four Seasons Community Orchestra as well as with her community Health Centre. After her undergraduate degree Sarah hopes to continue her studies by going to medical school.
