Meet Rebekah Elkerton – 2014 Winner

Rebekah is a member of the Eagle Clan from Chippewas of the Thames First Nation. Recently Rebekah graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Arts and was a Dean List recipient for the 2013-2014 academic year.

As well, Rebekah has actively worked volunteering as the vice-president of the First People’s Council, a student run Indigenous club on campus. There, she was responsible for coordinating social and cultural events and workshops. She was also a member of the Aboriginal Education Council, where Indigenous curriculum is developed and was responsible for recruiting and supporting Indigenous staff and students.

The fall of 2014 Rebekah will begin her graduate studies at Carleton University in Women’s and Gender Studies. She hopes to use her time in this program to research issues facing Aboriginal women-issues such as violence and human trafficking; she is passionate about improving the lives of all Aboriginal women in Canada and she is committed to making a positive change. She wants to give back to the Aboriginal community.

Congratulations Rebekah for being selected as a 2014 Rose Nolan Scholarship winner.
