Lauren McComber 2011 Rose Nolan Scholarship Winner is from the Mohawk First Nation of Kahnawake, located in Quebec. Entering her fourth year at Concordia University in Montreal where she is majoring in Journalism and First Peoples Studies.
Her late grandmother, Rita McComber had a great impact on her life and now is honoring her by making her community a better place to live. She participated in the Montreal Ride to Conquer Cancer in the summer of 2010 and also has volunteered at Kahnawake’s on-line newspaper.
Lauren has also volunteered at CKER TV Station as host for the CKER News and this September will be taking on the evening news.
Recently, Lauren was accepted into the newly-launched Indigenous Women in Community Leadership program offered through the Coady International Institute at St. Francs Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.
