Dawn Goo Goo 2012 Rose Nolan Scholarship Winner is a member of Waycobah First Nation in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
In September, Dawn will be entering her third year of BSc Nursing at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia. She is from a family of eight girls and was serving in Afghanistan with the Canadian military as a medic when she decided to return to school at the age of thirty years old.
During her first year of university she struggled but found out she had a learning disability from her professor. With her faith and support she continued her studies and just learned the ability to learn differently.
Over the years, she has been a recruiter as well as a medic for the Aboriginal community and has seen many youth from her area join the Aboriginal Summer Programs with the military.
For the past two years Dawn has won the Aboriginal Nursing Student Seminar Option award for her commitment and mentorship to first year Aboriginal nursing students.
