Christena is a 25 year old student born and raised in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia who is a member of the Pictou Landing First Nation. She recently graduated from the Nova Scotia Community College with honours in the Recreation Leadership program.
She will be furthering her education this fall as she has enrolled at the University of New Brunswick in the Recreation and Sport Studies program. Christena’s goal is to graduate in 2016 and obtain a position with the Pictou Landing First Nation as a Recreation Coordinator.
Her passion for sport and education has been demonstrated through her experiences as Head Coach for the Team Mi’kmaw Nova Scotia Track and Field team at the North American Indigenous Games. As well, she has worked as camp counsellor with the Tim Horton’s Children Foundation and has developed a program in Pictou Landing to increase fundamental movement skills and physical activity in children aged 5-12.
Congratulations Christena on being selected a recipient of the 2014 Rose Nolan Scholarship.
