2013 Rose Nolan Scholarship Winner Charlene Carson is a member of the Ojibways of the Pic River in Ontario. She has spent the last four years studying Chemical Engineering at Lakehead University and will graduate in December, but will continue through April to complete an Honors Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.
As a young girl, Charlene was involved with Girl Guides of Canada. She commends the positive influence that Girl Guides had on her life; presently, Charlene is a Girl Guide Unit Leader. She also volunteers with figure skating, helped support the Big Brothers Big Sisters in Thunder Bay, and assists with events at Beendigen Inc., a local Native family healing centre.
Charlene values the opportunity to represent females and Aboriginal people.
