2015 Rose Nolan Scholarship winner Alysha Leighton is a member of Tobique First Nation in New Brunswick. She is entering her 2nd year in the Dalhousie School of Health Sciences – Respiratory Therapy program in Halifax, Nova Scotia; only twelve students are accepted in this program so this is an achievement in itself.
Alysha comes from a family of healers as her mother has provided nursing services to fifteen First Nation communities in New Brunswick. At an early age Alysha became involved with her community in both extracurricular activities and in native dance.
She danced competitively with a dance studio and presently dances with the university competitive dance team. This year Alysha volunteered as an Orientation Week leader and was also floor representative for her house residence.
