I would very much like to tell you where I am and how the Rose Nolan Scholarship has helped through post secondary to where I am at today.
Reading Rose Nolan’s story has inspired me to complete my degree in knowing that learning is a life long process. Rose Nolan has empowered me to be a strong and resilient Anishnaabe-kwe. This scholarship has helped both my family and I while I attended post secondary education at Cambrian College to obtain my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree collaboratively through Laurentian University.
The scholarship has eased some of the financial burdens of living in an urban city. I look back now and sometimes wonder where I found the strength to obtain a degree in a program that was so overwhelmingly challenging. Then I look at my children and am very proud of where we are today. Also, having a supportive family and friends through all the hard times and struggles I had endured as a student, a spouse and a mother of four, raising a family and working part-time has given me strength to continue to finish my studies.
I am proud to say that I have graduated in May 2008 with a BScN degree in Nursing. I am currently working as a Registered Nurse at the Sudbury Regional Hospital in Sudbury, Ontario.
Regards, Faith Manitowabi, BScN
