I had the honor of being selected for a Rose Nolan scholarship in 2007.  During that time I was just starting my second year at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario.  I made the move to Sudbury the previous year to obtain my BSW in Native Human Services.  I am originally from Sarnia, Ontario which is about 7 hours southwest of Sudbury. Dear Ms. Hansell,

It has been an honour for me to receive the Rose Nolan Scholarship. As a member of the Tsimshian nation of Kitsumkalum, from the northwest coast of British Columbia, I am strongly committed to making a contribution to the economic and social success of the First Nations communities in Canada. The Rose Nolan Scholarship allowed me to pursue my ambitions at university to the fullest extent of my abilities.

I am currently attending Concordia University, finishing the last year of my Master’s degree in Economics.  When I received the Rose Nolan scholarship in the summer of 2008, I was able to give up part-time restaurant employment and focus on my studies. I cannot express the relief this was to me; finally, my school semesters could be spent on school. As a result, the scholarship helped me to remain in good standing academically. I was able to undertake economics-related employment such as working part-time as a teaching assistant in undergraduate Economics courses. [Continue Reading]

Things have been very successful for me in my life time.I would like to inform you that I was a successful   that had received your scholarship in my past academic years while attending Simon Fraser University.

I successfully completed my Academics with two degrees.  A bachelor in Education in curriculum and Instruction and a Bachelor in General Studies with a Linguistic Minor and First Nation Studies Minor. [Continue Reading]

I would very much like to tell you where I am and how the Rose Nolan Scholarship has helped through post secondary to where I am at today.

Reading Rose Nolan’s story has inspired me to complete my degree in knowing that learning is a life long process. Rose Nolan has empowered me to be a strong and resilient Anishnaabe-kwe. This scholarship has helped both my family and I while I attended post secondary education at Cambrian College to obtain my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree collaboratively through Laurentian University.
