She is entering her third year of study with a double major in Indigenous Studies and History at the University of Winnipeg.  </p>
<p>Shauna left school at an early age but returned when she became a single mother and attended Upward Bound high school for adult learners.  At that time she was selected valedictorian for her graduating class in 2002.  She was employed at Canadian Footwear for almost twelve years and with endless possibilities and challenged on a daily basis she decided to return to school in 2009.</p>
<p>She has volunteered with Fit Feet on the Street; a charity designed to assist homeless people and also volunteered at Siloam Mission and Salvation Army through this program.  Shauna hopes to encourage Aboriginal peoples to further their education.</p>
<p>Congratulations Shauna from all of us at the Ted Nolan Foundation.</p>

<p>Terri has volunteered for her community education department, fire department and daycare and while at school she helps with First Nations Services and Student Services.</p>
<p>Her first interest in Paramedics was when she volunteered at the local fire department in London, Ontario while going to school at the University of Western Ontario for Health Services.</p>

Entering her fourth year at Concordia University in Montreal where she is majoring in Journalism and First Peoples Studies.</p>
<p>Her late grandmother, Rita McComber had a great impact on her life and now is honoring her by making her community a better place to live.  She participated in the Montreal Ride to Conquer Cancer in the summer of 2010 and also has volunteered at Kahnawake’s on-line newspaper. Lauren has also volunteered at CKER TV Station as host for the CKER News and this September will be taking on the evening news.</p>
<p>Recently, Lauren was accepted into the newly-launched Indigenous Women in Community Leadership program offered through the Coady International Institute at St. Francs Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.</p>

<p>Jennifer is a single mother to two young boys but also has committed to sit on the Niagara Regional Native Centre along with the Aboriginal Education Council and was appointed to the Aboriginal Research Advisory Circle of the Research Ethics</p>
<p>Board at Brock University.</p>
<p>Her Master’s thesis entitled, Aboriginal Women in Education – Honouring Our Experiences – A Vision of Access to and Success within the University, focused on the barriers that Aboriginal women face in education.  Her research resulted in the development of the new Aboriginal Women’s Certificate Program that is currently being offered at Brock University.</p>

This fall she will be entering her third year in the Community and Economic Social Development honours degree program at Algoma University in Sault Ste. Marie.  Deb returned to university after a ten year absence to help her parents raise her young niece and nephew.</p>
<p>Her main reason she returned to school is to help with the Ojibwe language revitalization in Garden River First Nation.  Deb was raised with the language and would like to help increase the number of fluent speakers and would like to develop a language program geared towards effective immersion.</p>

<p>She is the proud mother of three beautiful boys and has always participated in her community and takes pleasure in many volunteer activities.  Rhoda started volunteering in high school and was a mentor to young girls and immediately loved it and has continued for the past six years.</p>
<p>Upon completion of her degree she hopes to continue and go into the Masters Program and pass on her knowledge and be part of the preservation of treaty rights as First Nations people.</p>

She is the youngest of eleven children and with both of her parents deceased she will always remember the hard work they taught her and to always finish what she started.</p>
<p>Cara is enrolled in the Juris Doctor program at the College of Law – University of Saskatchewan and will graduate in 2012.  In 2000 she enrolled in the Arts and Science program at the University of Saskatchewan but after two years decided to transfer to the Indian Social Work Program.  In 2005 she completed an overseas placement in New Zealand working with Maori youth at risk and graduated with a Bachelor of Indian Social Work.  Three years later Cara decided to pursue her long term goal of obtaining a degree in law.</p>
<p>Cara has always wanted to become a lawyer and share her teachings and build positive relations between Aboriginal people and non-Aboriginal people which may result in a better understanding of both peoples.  </p>

<p>Starlit spoke Mi’kmaq for the first six years of her life and is still adjusting and learning English and grammar to this day.  In March 2010, National Geographic Traveler printed her story that she submitted through a contest and is also helping take part in a book through a professor at New Hampshire University about Anthology.</p>

<p>Chantai is a very busy student athlete and for the past two years has been a member of the woman’s basketball team on the Augustana Campus at the University.  Recently, her team has been heavily involved in mentoring a specific group of girls from the Ermineskin Cree Nation in Hobbema, Alberta.  </p>
<p>Upon completion of her degree she hopes to obtain her master’s degree in psychology and one day would like to become a sports psychologist and work with athletes.</p>
