Shauna Turner 2011 Rose Nolan Scholarship Winner is Ojibway and a member of the Sagkeeng First Nation in Manitoba. She is entering her third year of study with a double major in Indigenous Studies and History at the University of Winnipeg.
Shauna left school at an early age but returned when she became a single mother and attended Upward Bound high school for adult learners. At that time she was selected valedictorian for her graduating class in 2002. She was employed at Canadian Footwear for almost twelve years and with endless possibilities and challenged on a daily basis she decided to return to school in 2009.
She has volunteered with Fit Feet on the Street; a charity designed to assist homeless people and also volunteered at Siloam Mission and Salvation Army through this program. Shauna hopes to encourage Aboriginal peoples to further their education.

Terri Fisher 2011 Rose Nolan Scholarship Winner is from Chippewa of the Thames First Nation, which is located near London, Ontario. Currently she will be entering her 2nd year this fall in the Paramedic program at St. Lawrence College and will graduate in 2012.
Terri has volunteered for her community education department, fire department and daycare and while at school she helps with First Nations Services and Student Services.
Her first interest in Paramedics was when she volunteered at the local fire department in London, Ontario while going to school at the University of Western Ontario for Health Services.

Lauren McComber 2011 Rose Nolan Scholarship Winner is from the Mohawk First Nation of Kahnawake, located in Quebec. Entering her fourth year at Concordia University in Montreal where she is majoring in Journalism and First Peoples Studies.
Her late grandmother, Rita McComber had a great impact on her life and now is honoring her by making her community a better place to live. She participated in the Montreal Ride to Conquer Cancer in the summer of 2010 and also has volunteered at Kahnawake’s on-line newspaper. Lauren has also volunteered at CKER TV Station as host for the CKER News and this September will be taking on the evening news.
Recently, Lauren was accepted into the newly-launched Indigenous Women in Community Leadership program offered through the Coady International Institute at St. Francs Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.

Jennifer Brant 2011 Rose Nolan Scholarship Winner is from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory in Ontario. Currently she is a Doctoral student in the Joint PhD program at Brock University and also has
completed a program in Policing and Justice at Niagara College, a BA in Sociology and just completed her M.Ed degree at Brock as well.

Jennifer is a single mother to two young boys but also has committed to sit on the Niagara Regional Native Centre along with the Aboriginal Education Council and was appointed to the Aboriginal Research Advisory Circle of the Research Ethics
Board at Brock University.
Her Master’s thesis entitled, Aboriginal Women in Education – Honouring Our Experiences – A Vision of Access to and Success within the University, focused on the barriers that Aboriginal women face in education. Her research resulted in the development of the new Aboriginal Women’s Certificate Program that is currently being offered at Brock University.
