Let’s Go Camping In Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia

Fifty First Nation students will have the opportunity to participate in a unique leadership camp, part of a five-year partnership announced between The Tim Horton Children’s Foundation and the Ted Nolan Foundation. Students have been selected with the help and support of First Nation Education coordinator, Barb Brown and District 18 School Board in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

The students between the ages of 11 – 14 will participate in a program designed to cultivate leadership skills, teamwork and independence through various wilderness activities combined with First Nation teachings.

The Tim Horton Children’s Camp in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia opened in 1988 and is located on the shores of the Northumberland Strait. President, Ted Nolan and his wife, Sandra along with Chief Candice Paul and local dignitaries from the community and surrounding area will be at the send-off from St. Mary’s First Nation on Oct. 4th.

Leadership Camp Dates Are Set

The Ted Nolan Foundation along with our partner Tim Horton Children’s Foundation are excited to announce the dates for both leadership camps. Starting in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia the date will be Oct. 4^th till Oct. 8^th as this will be the first pilot for future expansion in Atlantic Canada.

Our second camp which will be our second annual leadership camp will be held Oct. 20^th till the 24^th at Onondaga Farms, just north of Brantford, Ontario. With a total of hundred and fifty youth attending both camps the Ted Nolan Foundation is very grateful to Tim Horton Children’s Foundation for this unique opportunity.

The Ted Nolan Foundation is very thankful for the partnership with Tim Hortons and The Tim Hortons Children’s Foundation.

One of the many programs Tim Hortons utilizes to help send kids to camp is through the funding from public donations collected year-round through counter coin boxes located at every Tim Hortons outlet. Please know your generosity is greatly appreciated and that you are a making a difference in the lives of children everywhere.

So please, if you have some loose change, donate to the counter coin boxes at your local Tim Hortons and help send kids to camp.

The Ted Nolan Foundation would like say ‘CHI-MIIGWETCH’ to Mona Jones, Carol Trudeau-McEwen, Mackenzie and Alicia Sayers for taking time out of their work schedules to be with our students. A special thank you to Mona and Carol as they travelled with our students from Sault Ste. Marie and were an excellent support system.

Thank you Mackenzie for travelling from Manitoulin Island to pass on your knowledge and our history to our students and your sister, Alicia for being a great role model!

All campers will head to Niagara Falls today and then to the Rochester American’s Hockey Game this Sunday afternoon before heading back to camp. Thank you to all who attended and a special thank you to all the staff at Tim Hortons for everything they have done.
