Fifty Aboriginal school students boarded a bus Thursday morning for five days of fun and learning at the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation camp just north of Brantford. The opportunity is part of a five year partnership between the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation and the Ted Nolan Foundation. The students between the ages of 11-15 will participate in activities that will teach them leadership skills, teamwork and independence. Nolan, who was on hand to see the kids off said the trip would be a “life altering experience” for some of the kids.

Nolan said the students were chosen according to criteria set out by the Board of Directors of the Nolan Foundation. “It’s not about just good grades” Nolan said, but the students’ attitude, behaviour and attendance were also taken into consideration. Children were chosen from the Algoma District School Board and the Huron Superior Catholic District School Board.

This is the first trip of the partnership Nolan hopes to increase the number of students who can participate in the program each of the five years that it runs.
